Apple has released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, an experimental browser to test future Safari features.
The latest version of Safari Technology Preview, version 181, comes with various fixes and updates for CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Media, Rendering, and SVG. This release of Safari Technology Preview is compatible with macOS Ventura and macOS Sonoma, which are the newest versions of macOS that Apple released in September 2023.
The Safari Technology Preview update is now available for anyone who has downloaded the browser. You can find it through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings.
The latest version of Safari Technology Preview, Release 181, is now available for download on macOS Sonoma and macOS Ventura. If you have already installed Safari Technology Preview, you can easily update it by heading to System Settings and then selecting General → Software Update.
What’s new in Safari Technology Preview 181
This release includes several updates to WebKit between version 268060 and 268366. Notable updates include:
CSS updates such as added support for content-visibility, fixed serialisation of shape-outside, and fixed blend modes with interoperability improvements. HTML updates such as added support for one-time-code as an allowed autocomplete field name, fixed [dir=auto] invalidation with password fields, and fixed respecting the first parseable value. JavaScript updates such as fixed generator functions to not be Annex B hoisting candidates, and fixed the algorithm determining Annex B hoisted functions to perform lexical scope chain walk.
Media updates such as added MediaStream support for whiteBalanceMode.Rendering updates such as fixed resizing behaviour with writing-mode: vertical-rl or direction: rtl, and fixed handling iframes with display: none. Deprecations such as the removal of margin-trim behaviour for floats to match specification changes. SVG updates such as fixing the SVG mask to work as a mask-resource for the CSS mask-image.
