Offline and online shopping experiences are completely different. When buying offline we get to try out the clothes that we want to buy. We even ask the salesperson if there are other colours available. Things are completely different when shopping online as things become virtual and far from so-called realistic experiences. Google has something that can bring the offline-like shopping experience to online shopping using generative AI.
Google has introduced two new shopping features to make the online shopping experience better and more realistic. The features in question are Virtual try-on and new filters. Virtual try-on is a generative AI-based feature that shows real models wearing the clothes. The new filters, on the other hand, lets users find different types of clothes, colour, size, etc.
Preview clothes on different skin tones and body types
To make users make informed decisions about the cloth they like, Google has added the option that previews clothes on different skin tones and body types. This makes it easier for users to get an idea of how the clothes they are looking at will look on them.
The feature works on the company’s generative AI model which can take a cloth and show users how it will drape, fold, cling, stretch and form wrinkles and shadows on a diverse set of real models in various poses. Sizes that are currently available for users range between XXS and 4XL. Along with this, different skin tones, body shapes, ethnicities and hair types are also available for users to choose from.
Refine product search using new filtres
Apart from the new Virtual try-on feature, Google Shopping is also getting a couple of new filters that will allow users to find what they want. Based on Machine learning and new visual matching algorithms, the new filters will help users refine their search till they find what they want.
These new filters allow users to fine-tune their search with inputs like colour, style and pattern. Google Shopping will show clothes that meet your search parameters from across the web.
Limited rollout
Google is currently making the two new shopping features available to US users and with select types of clothes and brands. Currently, buyers can try on women’s tops from brands across Google, including Anthropologie, Everlane, H&M and LOFT. Just tap products with the “Try On” badge on Search and select the model that resonates most with you.
