Starting at a price of Rs 99,999, which includes FAME II subsidies but omits state-level subsidies, and going up to Rs 1,29,999 for the Pro model, Ola said it will start allowing buyers to purchase its vehicles from September 8 with the first deliveries beginning sometime in October across 1,000 cities and towns in India.
Ola, which will manufacture the vehicles at its plant in Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, said it will have a production capacity of 1 million vehicles soon and is confident of being able to fulfill pre-orders for its electric scooter models over the next few months. Ola has said it received over one lakh pre-bookings for its scooter in the first 24 hours of opening bookings to the public.

The top of the range Ola S1 Pro will have a 3.97 kilowatt-hour (KwH) battery pack that is rated for a range of 181 kilometers and will have a top speed of 115 kilometers per hour. While Aggarwal said buyers can expect 85% of that range in real-world conditions, he added that this was still twice as much as what competitors in the market were offering today.

The cheaper S1 gets a smaller 2.98 KwH battery pack, which is still larger than that offered in the Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak or TVS iQube scooters, that will give the S1 a range of 121 kilometers, while its top speed will be restricted to a 90 km/h.
Ola will also roll out an at-home service network in every city where it sells its EVs and said that buyers can expect a 40% lower total cost of ownership for its EVs as compared to petrol-powered scooters on the market today.
The company’s scooters will also come with a slew of futuristic features such as keyless lock/unlock, different modes and profiles for different riders, and will even allow riders to set moods that will change the sound and display graphics. Both models will also get a reverse mode and hill-hold assist.
“Only around 160 million people in India today own a two-wheeler and that will increase significantly. While we need our people to own mobility solutions, we can’t let that be petrol vehicles. The only way out is to accelerate this electric journey and that’s the vision which we started Ola Electric with,” said Aggarwal.
Aggarwal, who has also taken on giants such as Tesla and Hyundai on their ask from the Indian government to reduce import duties on EVs, saying that this would hurt development of India’s own EV manufacturing plans, also said that India should plan to switch to 100% EV two-wheelers by 2025 with the country having the ability to capture 50% of the global two-wheeler demand by that time.
He added that the “market is ready, the consumer is ready, it’s just that the companies are not ready” when it comes to offering EVs and Ola was looking to accelerate that through its launch of globally competitive products in the sector. He also said that Ola would make profits sooner than everyone expects it to from its EV manufacturing business.
