Switching to a different SIM card is a common thing for users, especially while travelling. However, the current setup of changing SIM card mode on phones takes a while to move back and forth. Google is working on a feature with Android 14 that will make the process faster and seamless.
What’s the current process
Right now, most Android phones support dual SIM and changing from SIM to SIM requires users to head to the Settings app, then go to Network & internet settings (depending on the phone you are using) and choose the SIM they want to use along with the preference selection for calls, SMS and data.
This seems to be a simple process, but consumes a while and completely moves from one SIM to another. Even after doing that, it takes a while to get the network signal and get things going.
Several users have asked for a simpler way to do all this without getting into the Settings app. Well, with Android 14, users will finally get this feature.
The new process
9to5Google has reported that Google may soon bring the option for Android users to be able to swap the SIM right from the Quick Settings tile. Now, this may be limited for data usage initially, but we expect it will offer full-fledged functionality in future.
Despite that, the ability to change the active SIM for data right from the Quick Settings will make things easier and faster for users.
When this will become available
Right now, the official rollout details of the feature are not known. However, the feature is first set to arrive with the Android 14 QPR1 release which will then be followed by the stable release. So, there’s time for this feature to go mainstream on Android devices.
